Outer Space is Deep, Astronomical, and Covers a Vast Distance

outer-spaceThe more I think about it, the more I realize that outer space is huge.  If you look up at the sky at night, you will see many stars (assuming it isn’t cloudy).  Each one of those stars in outer space can potentially have 1 or more planets around it.  Some semi-quick math tells you that even if there were only 1,000 stars in outer space (I am trying to utilize a realistic number), and each star had only 1 planet nearby, there are potentially 1,000 other planets in the entire universe!

For those of you who didn’t quite follow the math, here’s how I came up with 1,000 potential planets:

1,000 stars in the sky (I have verified that this is a realistic number of stars that exist because I have personally counted up to this number)

1 planet by each star (I tried to be conservative and assumed that each star only has 1 planet)

So,

1,000 (number of stars) X 1 (number of planets) = 1,000 potential planets!

With numbers that large, there’s a thought that can boggle your mind.

hey,i have always been fascinated by the space and how amazing it is but i do not understand how that each star has a planet around it, all i know are the basics that there are only 9 planets in this universe

That’s the thing. there are only 9 planets in OUR universe…. but there are million maybe eve trillions of other universes! That’s why space is such a mystery because of how large it is :)

Are you little kids or something? Because surely you know that there are 8 planets in our solar system (Pluto is no longer considered a planet) and it is estimated that a majority of stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way, have at least one planet orbiting their star. We have discovered hundreds of exoplanets (stars outside of our solar system) and found some that are similar to Earth. Then there are countless galaxies that are like ours. The universe is infinite, seemingly appearing to have no end.

I quite agree with you the universe is a mystery but note if men what to effectively understand the universe they should first of all understand the greatest mystery of nature the human mind for its dimension is a sure dimension of the universe finally the science of the universe begins when men understand their mind

chinonso i like you think that alot of the answers that we are looking for in many ways is like us for instantce lets take a black hole they say it ingulfs everything it takes in witch is very much like our pupiles gather in everthing that we see and i believe that like a palsar a pulsar is a sound comming from space that pulsates like our heart and pulse i think the alians that we are looking for may be rite in front of our eyes some times things are so big that we just dont see them for what they are and then there is is the nebulas this is where stars are bourn and i think they wait around millios of years waiting for a mate to come along and mate and produce a star

Get this. Nasa took a photo called deep space, which contained in it 10,000 galaxies that were observable. Each galaxy has literally billions of stars with like you said at least one planet orbiting each sun, plus any moons or large space debris. !!!!!! we are SMALLLL lol

Ahh the mystery of life..I mean humans can’t possible be so small minded that they think they are the ONLY race in the UNIVERSE. either a god exists, or ghosts exists, or aliens exists. Or they all exist. But I sure don’t think we are the only dam things in the universe. People who say u are ridiculous when you believe in this stuff are so small minded. And that like almost everybody think you are, just blow my mind.

I think we are the first humans because this planet is unique everything came to be in one special moment in time with Earth at the unique distance from the sun

    Nick replied:

Are you kidding me? Astronomers have already found hundreds of planets that lie in the “Goldilocks Zone” of their stars. There is nothing unique about Earth.

    Will replied:

Hmm its not the habitable zone that makes us unique there are so many other factors. Also when you get into over 100 light years away planets redshift from their sun leavong them in demand of an energy source.. Increasing there matter

I think these must be children because, as someone said, there are now 8 planets in our SOLAR SYSTEM (solar meaning sun, and 8 planets revolve around it amongst other things). Our galaxy has billions of stars in it, all having a gravitational pull that could draw smaller objects to orbit around them as well making that another solar system in our galaxy. Read a book or something people. And those of you who are using this site for school, please don’t use the comments because most of these are incorrect.

abby i seldom think that we humans are like the size of corpulcils to what ever it is that grows in space if you think about it the cells that make us up are so tiny that we can not see them with out the help of a micascope and then i look at the trillions of stars that make up our universe what if they are microscopic to some thing else what if black holes takes in every thing that gets near it that sounds like our pupils as they take in everything we see whos to say that a black hole dose not do the same thing . i guess we can all pawnder the abiss of space some peoples minds are so far out there that we think they are space out like me ,but i am not

Yes the outer space it Truly amazing, infinite aswell. It doesn’t take scientists, astrologers or years of schooling to figure out why it’s so vast. How about because of the one who created all things himself is infinite, where would he dwell if everywhere there were limits. The only reason we are so amazed at it’s limitless character is because we ourselves and the space that we live in has limits. But to an infinite God this is nothing. Even if you didn’t Believe In God or the Bible and the story of creation and how the world began, it still wouldn’t Take all these so called scholars to realize that we haven’t even mastered our own planet, let alone an infinite universe. What a waste of life and my tax dollars funding something that can’t be understood right now. It’s. Obvious that all we need to know in this life has been revealed to me in the word of God.

  • seabert says:

True freedom comes from knowing the eternal God. get to know him for yourself by studying his holy words and when you’re filled with the Holy Spirit through your surrendering to Christ who is Captain of the mighty throng then and only then you will enjoy that which can only be agreed with as peace perfect peace which surpasses all understanding, joy full joy, and righteousness which can only comes from the Creator. He is your maker he is my maker he is our Maker.
